You are now reading the blog entry from the divisional winner of “Cake Day” at the 162nd New York State Fair! Even though my score was a 99 (same as last year’s, but this time there was no “100″ above me), it was not only the winner for layer cakes, but winner from all cakes and best entry of the day! The winner was a cake I call (how apropos, now) “Chocolate Raspberry Delight”, made with three layers of Chocolate Torte cake, a filling of raspberry mousseline buttercream and a frosting of milk chocolate ganache. I’ll have pix up in the Gallery tonight. Yay for me!
Now … the recipe is eligible for “best of fair” and I have to provide an encore cake for the final judging on Labor Day. (Part of winning the division is you also get comp’d parking and tickets for that final judging day, so I’m only out my time and cake ingredients.) I don’t dare to hope but I’ve got this far!
